Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actor since the late 1980s. Her work has been recognized for TV and film from the mid-80s onwards, she has received various accolades including two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was raised living in Winston-Salem North Carolina, raised by an aunt who lived in New York New York. Bassett along with her sister, and their mother relocated to St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was five. Their father split from the mother of their children. Bassett watched the James Earl Jones in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men play when she was in highschool and realized that she was an actor and wanted to do. The year was 1980 and Bassett was graduated from Yale University New Haven Connecticut with a degree in African American studies. She was also awarded a degree by The Yale School of Drama. She was introduced to Courtney B. Vance, another actress from Yale and they got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a master's on African American studies in 1980.
